Paul “Poppie” Gundrum died suddenly on his 91st birthday, August 17, 2022. Paul was born in 1931 to Stephen Gundrum and Julia King. He married the love of his life, Carol Hallett in 1958. From a one-room schoolhouse in Lishakill to graduating from Nott Terrace High School in 1948, Paul was a gentleman above all else. He was an offset printer his entire life from his career at ALCO, to being drafted in the Army and serving in Japan for two years during the Korean Conflict, to returning to ALCO, where he met his bride to be Carol. He then went on to a successful career in Saratoga County as an offset printer.
Paul grew up on a farm in Lishakill and where they were well known for their sausage. Paul loved nature, farming, and gardening. At a young age he befriended Dr. Whitney from General Electric Labs. Dr. Whitney studied turtles as a hobby and would pay Paul a quarter for every turtle brought to him for tagging. Paul loved canoeing and fishing, especially on Lake George with family outings. In later years he loved growing tomatoes for the family, even though he didn’t like them! Paul was also a cancer survivor.
Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol; his daughters Paula Quay (Rich); Lisa Czolowski (Peter); and his son Darren Gundrum (Louise). He is also survived by several grandchildren and cousins.
