Patricia “Pooh” Rebhan-Backman, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital. Pooh was born on January 27, 1947, in Schenectady, NY.
Pooh is preceded in death by her husband George Backman, her parents Walter J. Pawlowski, and her mother Frances (Zobre) Pawlowski.
Pooh is survived by her sister Evelyn (John) Cross, of Albany, NY and her sister Marie (Richard) Ellithorpe, of Henderson, NY, and several other relatives and friends.
Pooh was employed most of her life as a floral designer at florist shops in the area, the most recent being Briarwood in Ballston Spa. She also worked for several years at Skidmore College in their Equine Department and served for many years as a member of the Middle Grove Fire Department.
Among the many things her family and friends will miss most about her were her sense of humor, her great artistic abilities in multiple media including painting and sketching, and her love for animals. Pooh was extremely proud about receiving first prize in the Saratoga County Fair for her beautiful Rocking Chair painting. At one time Pooh enjoyed raising canaries and she always had a dog and cat and enjoyed caring for her horse and pony. She loved it when she was able to be outdoors fishing in some stream or pond. Her heroic efforts for humanity saved a young man from drowning in the Hudson River.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Pooh’s dear friend Linda Voehringer who for several years helped Pooh with the many difficulties her failing health brought about.
Interment will be held at a later date, at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
