Obituary for Jutta Irene Graefin von Schwerin (Griessdorf)

Jutta Irene Graefin von Schwerin (Griessdorf)
Dateline: Rexford, NY

Jutta Irene von Schwerin, age 91, of Coburg Village, passed away of ovarian cancer on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 2, 1929 in Reichenbach, Germany to loving parents Gustav and Liselotte (Schmidt) Griessdorf.

In Germany, Jutta received a nursing degree. In 1954, she moved from Germany to Canada as a Red Cross Nurse where she met her soon-to-be-husband Bernhard in Montreal. They married in Manitoba in 1954 and immigrated to the U.S. five years later. After many adventures and the birth of three wonderful daughters, both she and her husband found the joy of owning a small business in Clifton Park where they eventually settled. Time Square was established in 1979 and, remaining in the family, still carries on a fine reputation of quality merchandise and personalized attention within the Capital District.

Jutta had a highly creative and artistic mind. She loved to paint, knit and embroider during her free time. When the weather was nice, you could always find her outside tending to her garden or in her kitchen baking up some delicious home-made treats for her friends and family. Born with an ear for music, she was an extraordinary recorder player.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bernhard F. von Schwerin; children Dagmar (Tom Rose) von Schwerin, Dina (Gary) Curasi, and Monica (Peter) Judd; sister Barbara Guenschel; grandchildren Erica (Andy) Gillette and Kyle (Rachel) Curasi, Alex (Kristen) Judd, Heidi (Cesar) Rivadeneyra; and great grandchildren Maren and Delaney Gillette, Oliver Curasi, and Aiden Rivadeneyra.

Along with her parents, Jutta is predeceased by her sister, Rosemarie Griessdorf.

Services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, beginning at 10:00am with a service of remembrance at 11:00am at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY. Light refreshments will be served.

Memorial donations may be made in Jutta’s name to Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.
