Obituary for Joseph F. Northrop

Dateline: Burnt Hills, NY

Joseph F. Northrop, age 79, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. He was born on August 27, 1942, in Syracuse, NY and was the son of Alice Northrop. Joe was a graduate of North High School and went on to graduate from Broome Community College and Syracuse University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. National Air Guard, where he served with the 174th Tactical Fighter Group (“The Boys From Syracuse”).

Joe was the beloved husband of Pam with whom he shared his life with for 54 years. Joe was employed by General Electric Co. for 28 years until his retirement as a human resources manager. Following retirement, he enjoyed keeping up with his Syracuse University sports and he took in many events with his season tickets. He was an avid enthusiast for sports and his charisma was unmatched whether he was in person or spectating on the television. Joe loved anything involving planes and trains, and he was an avid reader. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake and his faith was a guiding force and sense of comfort for him.

Throughout his life, Joe cultivated deep friendships that brought him great joy. He was a great listener and an even better story teller. Those who knew Joe, knew that his family and friends meant everything to him and he cherished his time with them.

Along with his wife, Pamela Anne Northrop, he is survived by his children, Christopher (Maria) Northrop Sr. and Shauna (Dave) Bryk; grandchildren, Mariah (Anthony) Ruscio, Christopher Northrop, Jr., Kyle Northrop, Tristin Northrop, Ashley Blowers, Brainden George, Aidan Northrop, David Bryk, and Emily Bryk. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sherry Keenan, his brother-in-law, Larry (Joan) Page, many nieces and nephews, and Kristin (Fred Blowers) Delaney who was like a daughter to him.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road Ballston Lake, NY.

All are welcome to a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 10:00 Our Lady of Grace, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake NY.

Interment with military honors will be held on Thursday at 12:30 PM at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
