Joseph R. Lewis, age 73, passed away on April 17, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 17, 1947 in Bridgeport, CT to his late parents Joseph L. and Sophia (Katra) Lewis. He spent his teenage years growing up in Harrington Park, New Jersey. Following graduation from Northern Valley Regional High School, 1965, he was drafted into the United Stated Army in 1968 where he served overseas in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1969, Joe started a rewarding career at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY before transferring to GE Waterford, NY. He was dedicated and hard working for over 35 years before taking his well-deserved retirement in 2003.
Joe enjoyed the great outdoors and everything it had to offer. In the summer, he loved going camping with his family and fishing with his friends on his boat. Joe loved his faithful dog companions throughout his life. He had a heart of gold and welcomed everyone into his home with open arms. There was always room at the table for anyone that was in need of a warm meal. Joe’s generosity and love of family will be forever cherished and missed by all.
Joe is survived by his dear wife Donna Lewis; children Joseph R. Lewis, Melissa A. (Jeremy) Nadeau, Christopher M. Lewis, and Megan L. Lewis Allard (Sean); siblings Jeffrey (Jeanne) Lewis and their daughter Jaclynne; stepsiblings CDR (ret.) Carl (Kathy) Herron and Michelle (Thomas) Gilroy; grandchildren Gabriella, Ava, Mathilde, and Addison. Along with his parents, Joe is predeceased by his sister Diane B. Lewis and step-mother Velma Lewis. He is also survived by several other extended family members.
Friends and family are invited and may call on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake NY. Please note that social distancing, masks, and occupancy limitations in the funeral home are required.
A private Funeral Service will be available to view via livestream at 2:00 PM on Joe’s Book of Memories on the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home website.
All are welcome to attend the interment at Jonesville Cemetery with full military honors at 3:00pm.
