John Francis Moynihan, III, age 85, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at his home. John was born on November 28, 1936 and was the son of the late John F. Moynihan II and Hyacinth (Nead) Moynihan.
John grew up in Norwood, OH a suburb of Cincinnati. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Norwood High School in 1954. John met his future wife, Marilyn Podesta and the two were married on July 26, 1961. John was a GE Apprentice Graduate in Evandale, OH and in 1963 was transferred to Meritt Island, FL. John continued his education at Florida Institute of Technology earning his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was an electrical engineer who worked on the Apollo 12 spacecraft at NASA, before transitioning to work on nuclear submarines, through Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. John had a long and successful career with GE, spanning 30 years before his retirement in 1992.
Outside of his work, John enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He was a member of the Clifton Park Elks Lodge and the Sag Enibrut Loj in the Adirondacks. John became a 46er in August of 1999, when he completed his hike of all of the Adirondack High Peaks.
John is survived by his wonderful wife of 61 years, Marilyn Moynihan; his wonderful children, Cynthia Moynihan and long-time partner Frank Sterlina, Teresa Moynihan, Patricia Bradley and her husband Christian, John F. Moynihan IV and his wife Michele, and Douglas E. Moynihan and his wife Kim, and his adored grandchildren James Resue (Leyden Johnson), McKenzie and Keelyn Bradley, and Madison, Brayden and Timothy Moynihan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dean Limeri, Dr. Paul Dworkin, and Dr. Christopher Dibble for all they have done for him over the years. Also, immense gratitude to friends and neighbors for all their support.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY.
Interment will be private in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville, NY.
