Franciszek “Frank” Fisher, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 2, 2021, peacefully at home. Frank was born on February 14, 1932 in Mikaszevicze, Poland to the late Joseph J. Ficner and Helen (Zanco) Ficner.
After the end of World War II, Frank left Poland as a young man and ultimately ended up joining the United States Army, serving from 1952, until his honorable discharge in 1957 during the Korean War. Throughout this period, Frank was stationed in Korea, Japan and later, America. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal , as well as Good Conduct Medal.
After the war, Frank wanted to put down some roots and settled in Albany, NY. He was employed at Tobin Packaging Co., in Albany, NY until 1981. Later he worked as a Chemical Handler Engineer at BASF Corporation, Rensselaer, NY, until his retirement. While living in Albany, Frank became an officer and lifetime member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Albany. Frank enjoyed attending Polish events and dances and it was at one Polish dance where he met his Sweetheart and future wife, Anna Surdyk. Anna and Frank were married in 1959 and moved to Rensselaer in 1963. This is where they raised their three daughters until his retirement.
Frank is remembered as a wholesome man, intelligent and hardworking. He was easy to talk to and always engaging, curious, and fun. He liked to joke and made friends wherever he went. His favorite pastimes included watching the Yankees, swimming, cooking and listening to the Polka show on Sundays, and spending time with his family and friends. Frank was an excellent provider for his family. He was a generous person and a gracious host who enjoyed entertaining friends and family at his home.
He is survived by his three daughters Helen (the late Steven) Barkley, Mary (Andrew Johnson) Fisher, and Kristine Fisher; and his beloved grandchildren Leslie Fisher and Shane Fisher. Loving Uncle to Steven Rupinski, Joseph (Lisa) Rupinski, Doreen (Chris) Peters, Jolanta (Nicolas) Morales, along with their children and several other nieces and nephews in Poland.
Frank is predeceased by his parents, and his two sisters, Ludmila Ficner and Nadzieja Gruszczynska, and by his devoted wife, Anna (Surdyk) Fisher.
The family would also like to acknowledge with gratitude Dr Jorge Silva, Dr. Baran and Dr. Daoui, Alice Brown, NP, and St. Peters home health, Steve Millington, RN, and the Community Hospice Team, and Kelly Berhaupt, and Ian Brisbin for their care, compassion and support.
Viewing will be held on Monday, 13 Dec 2021 from 1-3pm at Frank’s home, 150 Westside Drive, Ballston lake NY. Please wear a face mask while in attendance .
A Funeral Service will conclude the afternoon at 3:00pm.

Interment will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 12:00pm in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
