David A. Slovacek passed away on August 27, 2021 after a short battle with COVID. He was the son of Rudolf Slovacek and Dolores Kovarovic Slovacek, born on October 24th, 1954. He grew up in Rexford, New York and graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. While growing up, David served as a boy scout in the Alplaus troop, played baseball on the GE team, was an altar boy at Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake, New York and played clarinet. His love for music carried throughout his life.
David worked at several positions in the local area including construction and sales at GNC and Greene’s Appliances. He lived in California for several years working in electrical contracting before returning to New York where he resided the remainder of his life. David graduated from Schenectady County Community College with a degree in Applied Science, Electrical Technology. He was employed as a Test and Production Technician for Manufacturing at General Electric Healthcare. He was also the caretaker of the Slovacek property at the historic Blue Barns.
David enjoyed the outdoors and was fond of fishing, canoeing, and camping, which he shared with family and friends. He loved to tell stories, had a dry wit and was a favorite grandfather and uncle to the next generation. He was a snappy dresser and had a hat to cover any occasion. David was a gentleman and a kind soul, always lending a hand and giving to those less fortunate. He appreciated art and beauty and crafted many pieces of furniture and art from wood.
David is survived by his daughter Allegra (Loukas) Christidis and his grandson Dashiell Capps of Saratoga Springs, NY. David is also survived by his brothers Rudolf (Patti) Slovacek of Norfolk, MA; Simeon (Camille) Slovacek of Altadena, CA; Stephen (Vicki) Slovacek of Aromas, CA; and his sisters Cynthia (Ross) Elia of Albany, NY; Claudia Slovacek of Minneapolis, MN and Celeste Slovacek of Saratoga Springs, NY; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family is holding a private interment at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY.
